Investigators share update on deaths of five in Rolla, Mo., from carbon monoxide poisoning

“Investigators released new information in the possible carbon monoxide poisoning deaths of five victims at a duplex on June 19.

Rolla Rural Fire Department firefighters and Phelps County deputies responded to a carbon monoxide alert at 11942 Village Circle at approximately 5:25 a.m. Upon arrival, responders found five people dead on one side of the duplex and one person with critical injuries. A second person with moderate injuries was found on the opposite side of the duplex.

Phelps Health airlifted the two injured individuals to a nearby hospital for medical care. A deputy who was exposed to carbon monoxide during the operation was also treated by Phelps Health EMS…Investigators confirmed a car left running in the garage was the source of the carbon monoxide. The Phelps County Coroner’s Office and the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department said the manner of death has not yet been determined. Autopsies and toxicology tests have been completed, and investigators are awaiting those results.
