CO deaths and injuries are entirely preventable. Prevention requires awareness, knowledge, and the proactive use of CO alarms/detection.
In keeping with our mission, the Jenkins Foundation focuses on outreach efforts that connect people to both free alarms and educational resources to help them protect themselves and their families from CO exposure at home and when traveling. Whether helping children and families learn about carbon monoxide safety, providing life-saving alarms to patients in need, or sharing the experiences of those affected by carbon monoxide poisoning, each initiative moves us one step closer to safer homes, safer travel, and stronger communities. We are grateful for the donations that provide us the opportunity to hold our annual free alarm distributions.

Project Airy
Carbon Monoxide Safety for Kids
Project Airy is an annual effort held during NFPA’s Fire Prevention Week in October encouraging children and their families to learn about the life-saving value of CO alarms. Did you know canaries were the original CO alarms? Every year our mascot, Airy the Canary, and Jenkins Foundation volunteers attend Fire Department Open House events and distribute free CO alarm kits to parents while engaging kids in fun make-and-take projects that promote CO safety. Airy’s CO Safety for Kids website provides age-appropriate lessons that can be used in both classrooms and at home. Education is one of the most powerful tools we have, every child reached is another opportunity to save a life.
CO Experience Project
Honoring Stories. Inspiring Change.
Behind every carbon monoxide poisoning incident is a person, a family, and a story that deserves to be understood and remembered. The CO Experience Project shares real experiences from those whose lives have been forever changed by carbon monoxide exposure. Sharing these stories raises awareness of the complexity of these types of incidents, the lifelong impact it can have on families and survivors, and the ongoing need for improved CO detection requirements and safeguards in our nation’s safety system.
Free Alarms for Patients
The gift of safety ❤️
Every family deserves access to the protection a carbon monoxide alarm provides. This outreach effort has the simple goal of getting free CO alarms and awareness materials into the hands of patients receiving treatment for CO poisoning and their families, giving them immediate access to the tools they need to stay safe when they return home. Every year the Free Alarms for Patients Project ships CO alarms kits to hyperbaric treatment hospitals throughout the U.S. where they are distributed, free of charge, to patients.
