Florida –

“Jayden, 20, died in the April 3 Econo Lodge fire in Avon Park that also claimed the life of Jayden’s fiance, Kashief Walker…The Highlands County Fire Rescue report, dated April 3, stated the fire, which began just before 2 a.m. in Room 232, was contained to the front left corner of the room. When Highlands Fire Rescue Station 7 of Sun ‘N Lake of Sebring responded to the fire, they found the door to Room 232 open and two bodies — one on the floor at the base of the bed and another on the floor on the right side of the bed…

Firefighters discovered McCamont’s body on the floor in front of the bed and Walker’s on the floor between the bed and the hotel room door. Each had superficial burns from the fire, which was contained to a front corner of the hotel room.

McCamont had no drugs or alcohol in her system, but an assistant medical examiner found black soot in her upper airways and lungs; excess fluid building up in the air sacs of the lungs; and 55% concentration of carbon monoxide in her blood…also had a slight bruise on the back of her head, which police believe was inflicted when Jayden fell backward and hit her head on a dresser.

The cause of death is carbon monoxide toxicity due to inhaling gases and other byproducts of the 2 a.m. fire in the corner of the room. The medical examiner declared the manner of death as an accident.

The medical examiner’s office had similar findings regarding Walker’s death. His upper airways and lungs were lined with black soot, his lungs were filled with fluid due to a 74% load of carbon monoxide in his blood. He also had superficial burns to the face and skin. He had no drugs in his system and a little bit of alcohol in his system…’While the initial news coverage treated this as a tragic accident, the active state death investigations — including the Highlands County Fire Marshal — have recently confirmed devastating findings. The official investigation found that there were non-working smoke detectors and a complete absence of life-safety devices in place.'”
